Automated Mechanism for Sliding Heavy Load Onto and Off Platforms
Inventors: Alexander Paz-Cruz
University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty Member
The Invention:
An automated mechanism for sliding heavy load onto and off platforms is proposed. A particular application for the proposed mechanism is the transfer of load across transportation modes. In particular the transfer of heavy load from one side of a rail track to a railcar and/or from the railcar to one side of the rail track. For example, the proposed mechanism expands existing opportunities to develop and build alternative multi-modal transportation systems such as a Land Ferry, the loading and unloading of cargo at ports, the loading of large trucks, the loading or amusement park rides, and the loading of airplanes, etc. The specific geometric and other characteristics of the stations can be adjusted to address any particular application or modes of transportation.
Benefits:
- Quickly load and unload double stacked containers, containers, amusement, full assembly lines onto and off of a train by side loading.
- Load and unload vehicles onto/off a train, while allowing electrical charging for electric vehicles by side loading.
- Full invention includes Steel, aluminum, polycarbonate materials
Market Opportunity:
- The desire for automated technology is rapidly increasing and the industry evolves. The current revenue on IBIS is stated as $1.3B with a CAGR of 2.1% between 2023-2028.
